How to Make a Paper Rose Easily

Make paper roses with paper and pipe cleaners.

Paper roses can be a very easy craft for kids to do, or even for adults to use as scrapbook or greeting card embellishments. Paper is flexible and easily manipulated, so it is perfect for forming the most intricate or simple designs and shapes. Paper also resembles the thickness of the petals of a rose, and luckily is very inexpensive to work with. Try making paper roses to decorate your other craft projects, or to have fun with your kids.

Things You'll Need

• Red construction paper (or any other rose color)
• Scissors
• White glue
• Toothpick
• Green pipe cleaner

Instructions

1. Cut a strip of red construction paper about two inches wide, using your scissors. The length is not as important, but the longer you make the strip, the fuller your rose will be.

2. Cut one long end of the strip in a curvy line. Make the curves about an inch long and about three quarters of an inch thick. The resulting shape will be similar to the top of a fence with curved boards.

3. Place a line of glue along the straight edge of the strip.

4. Hold a toothpick at one end of the strip, across the line of glue so that it sticks out off of the straight edge. Twist the toothpick and wrap the end of the strip with it.

5. Continue rolling and wrapping the paper around the toothpick until you have rolled the entire strip tightly around it. Remove the toothpick by sliding it out.

6. Dip the end of a green pipe cleaner in white glue and insert it where the toothpick was before.

7. Allow the glue to dry for about 20 minutes, and then bend down some of your curves at the top. These are your petals and the green pipe cleaner is the stem.
