How to Change a Car Headlight in the 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva
Replacing a headlight in a 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva is an inevitable minor repair. The Achieva uses composite halogen headlights. Although these lights are more enduring than the old sealed-beam units, they still expire eventually. The Achieva's headlight is comprised of a dual-filament bulb that accounts for both low-beam and high-beam. Rarely do both filaments in the bulb fail at the same time.

1
Ensure that the headlight switch inside the car is in the off position, and then open the hood.
-
2
Approach the headlight assembly from the front of the car that contains that bad headlight.
-
-
3
Reach down behind the headlight assembly and twist the headlight collar counterclockwise about 1/4 turn while pushing inward slightly.
-
4
Disconnect the wire harness plug from the socket of the spent headlight, and then remove the headlight from the collar. Discard the headlight.
-
5
Place a pair of disposable gloves on your hands to prevent touching the new headlight with your skin. Halogen bulbs burn excessively hot, and any contaminants can compromise their service life.
-
6
Insert the new bulb in the collar, and then reconnect the wire harness plug.
-
7
Align the tabs of the collar to the notches in the headlight assembly. Push inward slightly and twist the collar clockwise 1/4 turn to lock it in place.
-
8
Turn the headlights on to ensure that they're working properly.
