How to Replace a Rear Window Motor on a 1998 Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser is a durable Toyota-manufactured terrain vehicle that has been in production for over half a century. If the rear window of your 1998 Land Cruiser is broken, damaged or isn't working properly, there is no need to ask for professional help. Replacing the window motor of your rear window is a task that you can perform by yourself.
Instructions

-
1
Park your Land Cruiser on even, level ground and take the key out of the ignition. Prepare all the necessary tools and bring them near the car.
-
2
Remove all the items from the door panel, such as the armrest, control switch panel, handle cover and the handle itself. Use a screwdriver to gently and slowly pry off all the plastic covers.
-
-
3
Detach the rear door panel by removing all the mounting bolts or screws that hold it to the door with a flat screwdriver. If there are plastic clips on the edges of the panel, use a screwdriver to pop it off from the door. Look at the back side of the door panel and disconnect the wires so you can remove the whole door panel assembly.
-
4
Disconnect the electrical connector from under the rear window switch panel.
-
5
Peel off the protective plastic insulator from the inside of the rear door and set it aside for later. This will allow a clear access to the door lock control rod and the rear window motor.
-
6
Test the electrical circuit of the window motor. Reconnect the switch control. Then release the safety clip and remove the electrical connector. Insert the test light into either side of the electrical connector. Turn the key of the ignition to the "on" position. Then actuate the window switch panel. The test light should light up in one direction of the electrical connector.
-
7
Tape the glass window to the top of the door with a masking tape so it doesn't fall down. Remove all the mounting bolts of both the rear window motor and the rear window regulator. Then remove the window motor and regulator units.
-
8
Install the new window motor and regulator in the same position as the old window motor and regulator.
-
9
Reassemble the whole rear door by repeating steps 2-5 in reverse.
-
10
Test the rear window to check if everything is properly installed and working as it should.
