How to Install Automobile Swamp Coolers
A swamp cooler (or evaporative cooler) cools air through the evaporation of water over the cooler's blower. Swamp coolers have been popular in homes in dry climates for quite a few years, because they are less expensive, have fewer moving parts, and use less electricity than coolers that provide refrigerated air. Small, portable swamp coolers are available for automobiles, trucks, or recreational vehicles. You can install a swamp cooler in your automobile in just a few minutes' time.
Instructions

1
Roll down the driver’s door window a few inches.
-
2
Hang the swamp cooler over the edge of the window with the air vent facing the interior of your car. Roll the window up until the top of the cooler touches the top of the window frame. Do not force the window any further or you could damage the window regulator.

3
Open the fill door on the outside of the cooler and, using a pitcher or a plastic squeeze bottle, fill water to the full mark. If you desire cooler air, add some ice cubes. Close the fill door.
-
4
Plug the cooler's power cord into a cigarette lighter or other such power source inside the car. Route the cord where it will not be a hazard while driving.
-
5
Turn on the cooler’s power switch and select the blower speed, if applicable.

Tips & Warnings
Swamp coolers are only efficient in hot, dry climates. If you try to use your swamp cooler in a humid climate, you will only add to the humidity of your vehicle’s interior.
Depending on the outside temperature, your swamp cooler will need to be refilled with water every 30 minutes or so. Do not try to fill the cooler while driving, or you could cause an accident.
To keep your cooler operating efficiently, the cooler pad must be changed or cleaned periodically. Check the directions that came with your cooler for the correct maintenance schedule.
