How to Change a Double Deadbolt Lock
A double deadbolt lock, or twin cylinder lock, is a lock that requires a key from both sides of the door. These locks are generally forbidden by modern building codes, because they hamper emergency egress. Nonetheless, they have their place, for instance in the door connecting two adjoining hotel rooms. Replacing a twin cylinder deadbolt is straightforward, and most homeowners can do the job in 20 minutes using simple hand tools. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Remove the two Phillips head screws on the face of the lock with the door open, and pull the cylinder assemblies from each side of the door.
-
2
Remove the two screws that secure the bolt assembly to the edge of the door, and withdraw the bolt assembly from the door.
-
-
3
Install the new bolt assembly in the door by sliding it in place and tightening the two short wood screws by hand. Be careful not to overtighten the screws because they strip out easily.
-
4
Identify the interior and exterior halves of the new lock. The interior side has two screw holes, while the exterior side has none. Place the new lock cylinders on the appropriate side of the door, positioned in the same manner as the cylinders you removed.
-
5
Insert the two long machine screws into the screw holes on the face of the interior lock cylinder. Tighten the screws finger tight, plus one-eighth turn.
-
6
Test the new lock to assure smooth operation.
