How to Build Your Own Tetherball Pole

Tetherballs are essentially volleyballs with ropes.

Tetherball is a game popularized in the 1970s and is rarely seen as of 2010. Tetherball courts are located in some gyms and school playgrounds but many children today do not know how to play the game. If you are a fan of tetherball and want to play in your backyard you can make a tetherball pole on your own.

Things You'll Need

• 10 ft. aluminum pole, 2-inch diameter
• Drill
• Metal drill bit
• Eyebolt
• Concrete mix
• Tarp
• Tire
• Tetherball

Instructions

1. Drill a hole 2 inches from the top of the aluminum pole. Screw the eyebolt to the hole. This is where you will attach the tetherball rope later.

2. Roll out the tarp onto your workspace floor and place a tire, hubcap and rim face down. Mix the concrete according the manufacturer's instructions on the label.

3. Place the bottom of the aluminum pole in the center of the tire so that the pole is perpendicular to the tire rim. Pour the concrete around the pole until the concrete is level with the top of the tire. Ensure that nothing is dripping off of the tarp. The tarp will make it easy to peel the dried concrete tire off.

4. Prop the tetherball pole up to keep it perfectly perpendicular to the tire. Allow the concrete to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions on the label.

5. Peel the tarp off the bottom of the tire and attach the tetherball to the eyebolt.

Tips & Warnings

• Adjust the length of the tetherball rope to accommodate your players. If children are playing you will need to lengthen the rope.

• Use eye protection and gloves whenever cutting metal or working with cement.

• If the tetherball pole is for children, place some protective padding around the cement-filled tire.
