How to Buy a Pane of Glass

This is a brief guide on how to buy a pane of glass. Its really not that difficult to buy a pane of glass but some people just have never had to deal with the issue and may find this advice helpful.

1. First thing you need to know about how to buy a pane of glass is how thick of glass you need. Most glass used in everyday application comes in either 1/16", 1/8" or 1/4" thicknesses. If you are looking for a window pane, go for 1/4" thick glass. If you need a picture frame replacement pane, then I would suggest 1/16" or 1/8".

2. In order to buy a pane of glass, try a google search of your local area for glass shops or glaziers. These are simply shops that buy large pieces of glass and cut them down for you and me. They charge a rather high price for what they do, nothing exhortation mind you, just more then you should be paying in my opinion.

3. The best option for purchasing custom glass pieces on the cheap is to find your local glass and mirror fabricator. They are in essence the suppliers of the glass shops and if you can find a cool small fabricator you might be able to get you glass at wholesale cost, which in that market is dirt dirt cheap. That is my advice on learning how to buy a pane of glass. Try to find the glass wholesaler in your area and ask them nicely to do it for you. Using a glass shop isn't a terrible option, but hey its worth trying to save money, especially if you have a big project that will need a lot of glass panes.
