How to Remove Bus Seats

When renovating a school bus for personal use, you will be gutting the interior of the bus. Part of the remodeling will be removing the bus seats. Bus seats secure on the side wall and the floor of the bus. The bottom bolts go through the floor of the bus. You will need an assistant to hold the retaining nuts under the bus while you are removing the bolts from inside the bus.

Instructions

Spray the bolts with penetrating oil. You should spray the retaining nuts under the bus as well. Allow the penetrating oil to soak for one hour before removing the bus seat hardware.

    • 2

Ask your helper to go under the bus with a 7/16-inch box wrench to hold the nut securing the seat bolt. There are two bolts securing both outside legs of the bus seat. You will need to communicate to your helper which bolt you are going to start removing first.

    • 3

Remove the floor seat bolt with a 3/8-inch socket wrench while your helper holds the nut securely with the box wrench. Remove all four floor bolts before moving to the side bolts.

Remove the two bolts securing the bus seat to the side of the school bus with a ½-inch socket wrench. The side of the seat rests on a metal ledge and the bolts go through the seat mount and the ledge. There will be two or three bolts securing the side of the bus seat.

Ask your helper to help you pull the seat out of the bus. Repeat the process until you remove all the bus seats.
