How to Make a Box From a Christmas Card

Every year you receive beautiful Christmas cards, and you now have a box full of them sitting in your closet. But instead of tossing out those old greeting cards, give them new life by converting them into gift boxes. Recycling your Christmas cards will not declutter your closet but also help the environment. You will also save money since you won't have to purchase small gift boxes.

Things You'll Need

  • Christmas card
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scoring tool
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Card stock

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the Christmas card in half. Cut directly on the fold to separate the front from the back.

    • 2

Use the half of the card with the Christmas print. Score a line on each side of the card that is at least ½ to 1¼ inches from the card's edge. Use the same measurement for both sides of the card, and use a pencil to make two small marks to guide you when you score the line. Use a scoring tool or stylus to make the line.

    • 3

Score each side of the card with the same measurement. You will notice a small square on each corner of the card. The squares are a result of scoring the card, and will help you make the folds for the box.

    • 4

Cut the edge of each square to make small flaps on all four sides. You will cut directly on the vertical scored line next to each square until you reach the creased line.

    • 5

Fold all the sides using the creased lines so the flaps and squares are upright.

    • 6

Tuck the squares in to form the four walls of your box. Glue the squares to the long side walls with a glue stick.

    • 7

Repeat the process with a plain piece of thick card stock. Cut the card stock 0.04 inches smaller than the card to make sure that the two boxes fit together.
