How to Connect Multiple Ground Wires for a Car Stereo

Powering a car amplifier requires connecting a power wire to the car battery and connecting a ground wire to the chassis. The two connections act as the positive and negative power supplies, similar to a battery. If you are connecting multiple amplifiers in a car, such as a two-channel amp to power subwoofers and a four-channel amp to power speakers, you'll need to connect multiple ground wires.

• Car amplifier(s)
• Ground wires

Instructions

1. To prevent a short circuit or injury, disconnect the negative terminal from your car battery before performing any electrical wiring on your car.

2. Connect the ground wire to the amplifier's negative ground terminal. The ground terminal should be labeled. If not, refer to amplifier's wiring diagram for help.

3. Locate an area to ground the amplifier. Look for any metal object that is connected to the chassis, ideally a nut or screw. These can be found in numerous areas of vehicles, such as a nut that is holding seat belt buckles in place.

4. Unscrew the nut and screw it back over the ground wire's lead.

5. Repeat these steps for additional ground wires.
