How to Charge Your RV Battery

Charging your RV's battery is a simple process.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Run your engine for at least five minutes.

  2. Step 2

    Remove battery caps and observe polarity.

  3. Step 3

    Check that the lead plates are covered with electrolyte (battery acid).

  4. Step 4

    Fill with distilled water as needed.

  5. Step 5

    Connect your battery to a portable charging unit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Smart chargers that taper off charging as the battery fills are the best.
  • Electrolyte (battery acid) is corrosive to metal, skin and cloth. If spilled on skin or squirted into eyes, flush with baking soda and water to neutralize the acid and get immediate medical attention.
  • Batteries can give off explosive gases.
