How to Ground a DJ Mixer

When it comes to your DJ setup, the DJ mixer is like the brains of your system. When setting up, you need to ground your mixer to your playback components, especially if they are turntables. If you do not ground your mixer, you could experience an awful hum from your speakers during your session. Fortunately, grounding your mixer is extremely easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the turntables to your mixer using RCA jacks going from the outputs of the turntables to the inputs on your mixer.

    • 2

Connect the grounding fork, a small metal connection on your RCA cable, to the grounding post on the mixer. The ground post is often located on the back of the mixer by the mic input jacks.

    • 3

If the grounding post on the mixer is a screw rather than a post, unscrew the ground screw slightly, slide the ground fork over the screw shaft and tighten the screw to hold the ground fork in place.

    • 4

Connect your mixer and your turntables to their respective power supplies and turn everything on, starting with the turntables and then the mixer. When powering off, do this in the opposite order, turning off the mixer and then the turntables.
