Instructions

    • 1

Drill two small holes (less than 1/4 inch) at each end of the crack. Fill in the holes will insulation foam. Let the foam expand and set. The holes will stop the crack from later expanding.

    • 2

Clean the crack with a bathroom cleaner and sponge. Rinse the area with clear water. Absorb up any moisture with a towel and allow the area to dry.

    • 3

Smooth over the jagged edges of the crack. The tool you use depends on the size of the crack. For small cracks, sandpaper or a small file will suffice. Use a tungsten carbide cutter for bigger jobs. Hold the tungsten carbide cutter at an angle and create a V-shaped channel along the entire length of the crack.

    • 4

Squirt epoxy resin into the crack. Let the epoxy dry for 24 hours.

    • 5

Sand over the crack with 240-grit wet/dry sandpaper. Soak a 400-grit wet/dry sandpaper and sand one more time until the surface of the epoxy is on the same level as the tub.

    • 6

Spray porcelain paint over the crack. Allow the paint to dry for the time recommended on its label. Spray on a second coat of paint.

    • 7

Leave the tub untouched for 48 hours--longer if feasible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear rubber gloves and a painter's mask when painting. Open the windows and door in your bathroom to let any paint fumes out.
