How to Change Inca Planer Blades
A planer reduces the thickness of a wooden board by removing small shavings with a rotating cutter head that holds two or three knives, depending on the model. The Inca planer uses two knives but, unlike other models, Inca planers use an extra set of screws to align the blades. The screws in front of each blade hold the blade in the cutter head, while the screws behind the blade are used to raise or lower the blade to align it with the outfeed table.

1
Unplug the power cord. Use a piece of scrap wood to rotate the cutter head until you can access the screws that hold the first blade in place.
-
2
Use a hex key to loosen the screws. Remove the blade and clean any debris from the slot. Put a new blade in the slot and tighten the screws just enough to hold the blade in place.

3
Turn the cutter head with a piece of scrap wood until you see the screws that hold the second blade in place. Repeat step two.
-
4
Place a straight edge on the outfeed table and extend it over the cutter head. Verify that the first blade is aligned with the outfeed table.
-
5
Lower or raise the blade height as necessary by turning the screws located behind the first blade until the entire edge is aligned with the outfeed table. After you align the blade, tighten the screws in front of the blade. Recheck the blade alignment.

6
Repeat steps four and five with the second blade.
