Make an everlasting jasmine flower from paper. Crafters of any skill level can successfully complete this project. The materials needed are easy to find, and although the end result looks complex, the process for making it is simple. Jasmine flowers are typically white or yellow in color, so use white or yellow paper when making your paper flower.
Make the Flower
Things You'll Need
- 18-inch floral stem, 20-gauge
- Chain nose pliers
- Cotton ball
- 3 squares white tissue paper, 6-inch
- Craft glue
- Scrap piece of white paper
- 1 sheet green construction paper, 9-by-12-inch
- Green floral tape
- Wire cutters
Use the chain nose pliers to create a 1/4-inch loop at the top of the wire.
Pull apart a cotton ball and cover the loop with cotton. Pinch it with your fingers to secure it to the wire.
Fold 1 square of tissue paper in half. Fold it in half again in the same direction, leaving you with a 1.5-by-6-inch rectangle. Fold the rectangle in half downwards, making a 1.5-by-3-inch rectangle. Repeat with the other 2 squares of tissue paper.
Cut tiny scallop shapes along the crease on the 1.5-inch side of each rectangle.
You can draw the scallop shapes with a pencil as a guide if you need to.
Open up the folds to reveal long, scalloped strips of paper.
Place a drop of glue on the lower edge of the cotton. Lay the tip of one of the strips of paper into the glue. The scallops should be pointing up, and even with the top of the cotton.
Wrap the strip of paper around and around the center of the flower, creating a spiral of small petals. Secure with a small drop of glue at the end.
Wrap the second and third strips of paper around the flower in the same fashion. Pinch the bottom of the flower as it gets bigger to open up the petals.
Secure with glue at the end.
Make a pattern for the jasmine leaves on the scrap of white paper. Draw a 1-inch circle. Draw a 1-inch equilateral triangle on top of the circle. Draw curves on either side of the triangle, connecting the point with the circle. Cut out the leaf shape.
Trace the leaf shape 2 times on the green construction paper. Cut out the leaves.
Place 1 leaf on either side of the flower at the base of the flower. Secure with a piece of green floral tape.
Trim the wire stem to the desired length. Wrap the stem in green floral tape.
Variations on the Jasmine Flower
Although the jasmine flower is typically white and approximately 1 inch in diameter, you can be creative and make paper jasmines in different sizes or with decorative paper.
- Instead of tissue paper, use paper napkins, embossed white paper, coffee filters, old book pages, or sheet music.
- Vary the size of the square of paper in the beginning to create different-sized flowers.
- Instead of cutting scallops, cut pointed shapes for a different shape of petals.
