How to Mount Canvas Prints

Save

Canvas paintings and photographs are a stylish, uniform-but-unique way to decorate a room. From canvas copies of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" to photos taken on your recent vacation to Alaska, mounting options are limitless. Mounting a canvas print is easy and takes just a few minutes. It involves stretching the art over a board, making it much easier to hang.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 piece of 1/2-inch tempered hardboard
  • Table saw
  • Scissors
  • Spray adhesive
  • Razor blade
  • Cut the tempered hardboard to size with a table saw. It should be the exact size of the print on the canvas.

  • Cut around the canvas print, leaving a 2-inch perimeter around the print.

  • Spray the back of the hardboard with adhesive. Make sure you put down newspaper so the spray doesn't get all over everything. Make sure the spray coat covers the whole back of the board in an even coat.

  • Place the canvas print face down on the table and quickly place the sticky side of the board on the canvas. Make sure the board is centered with just the 2-inch perimeter showing.

  • Roll over the board with a baking roller, putting pressure on it to help it better stick to the print.

  • Cut around the perimeter of the board with the razor blade—the print and board still face down—removing the 2-inch perimeter. The canvas print should now be the same size as the board and ready to hang or frame.
