How to Create Online Posters

In the past, only a select few could produce posters because making them required art skills. You needed to know your way around a paintbrush to be able to create a poster that was worth hanging on the wall. Computer software has made the task easier, with imaging tools and photo-editing programs. These days making a poster is as easy as going online and working with the resources you can find there.

Things You'll Need

  • Digital camera
  • Photo imaging software (optional)
  • Plan the concept of your poster. Use your digital camera to shoot photos befitting your topic. You can also work with photos saved on your computer or go to royalty-free photo banks on the Internet to find a suitable image for your poster.

  • Come up with a compelling slogan or banner to go with your image. It could be a call to action for a product or service you might be selling, or it could be a simple message to invite people to come to an event. Just remember that you have to be as succinct as possible because you want to attract an audience. People will not look at your poster if you don’t attract them with a compelling message.

  • Visit one of the many poster generator websites on the Internet. These websites allow users to create their own posters by using one of the hundreds of templates and suggested designs. The Resources area below will help you get started.

  • Upload your photo to the online poster creator site. Many websites for making online posters will require you to upload your own image. Alternatively, you can go over the images available through the site.

  • Go over the image-editing features of the website. A poster site will come with a number of options for editing your image. You can crop the image, put a border around it and add in special effects such as sepia color on the image to match your preference.

  • Enter your message or call to action in the space provided. The good thing about creating posters through the Internet is you only have to enter the information provided and the website will assemble everything for you. Type your call to action in the space provided and wait for your poster to generate.

  • Print your poster according to the size you have specified. A typical poster will require A4 paper. The size options on the website will provide you with various poster sizes. You just have to choose the appropriate size and print the poster accordingly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you’re going to obtain an image from the Internet, make sure that the image is not protected by copyrights so you don’t violate that copyright.
