How to Change the Belt on a Polaris Indy Lite Snowmobile

Save

The track of your Polaris Indy Lite snowmobile, just like any other type of snowmobile, uses a drive belt to turn the track and propel the sled forward. When the drive belt gets old or goes bad it will need to be replaced. In order to replace the belt you will first need to determine the size of belt you need by looking for a part number that can be found on the belt.

  • Release the hood pins and open the hood of the snowmobile. You will need to be standing on the left side of the machine.

  • Locate the secondary clutch sheave on the left side of the engine compartment. The secondary clutch has two wheels that sandwich the belt.

  • Turn the left sheave or wheel counter-clockwise and pull it towards you. This will open up the clutch and slacken the belt.

  • Pull the belt off of the secondary clutch and then off of the primary clutch.

  • Put one end of the new belt over the primary clutch and then repeat Step 3.

  • Place the new belt on the edge of the sheave or wheel and then turn it clockwise to work the belt onto the secondary clutch.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hood pins for the snowmobile are typically made of rubber so they can be easily released.
  • Measure the diameter of the belt or take it with you to find a replacement part.
