Writing professional-looking documents, preparing professional-looking spreadsheets, and showing professional-looking presentations are all critical business skills. One common set of programs used to produce these documents is Microsoft Office. Sometimes, the formatting in programs such as Word, Excel or Power Point becomes askew. When this happens, try clearing the formatting and organizing it yourself to accomplish that professional-looking product.

Clearing Word Formatting

  • Copy the text from which you wish to clear the formatting by holding down the left mouse button and scrolling across the text. To select all the text, press the "CTRL+A."

  • Click on the "Font" tab in the menu at the top of your screen. A drop down menu will display.

  • Click "Clear Formatting." The formatting will be cleared.

Clearing Power Point Formatting

  • Open your Power Point file so that you can edit the slides.

  • Click on a text box within a Power Point frame; a cursor will display allowing you to edit the text.

  • Highlight the text from which you wish to clear the formatting. Use the method set forth in Section 1, Step 1 above.

  • Choose the "Font" option and select "Clear All Formatting."

Clear Formatting from Excel

  • Open an Excel spreadsheet so that you can edit the cells.

  • Use either the "control A" method to select all the cells in a spreadsheet, or click on the specific tab, row or cell from which you want to clear the formatting.

  • Click on the "Edit" menu and choose the "Clear Formats" options.
