    • 1

Layer the materials in the following order: designer upholstery fabric (face down), batting, foam and plywood. Be sure the foam and plywood are centered onto the batting and foam.

    • 2

Fold the batting and fabric over the back of the plywood, starting on either the left or right side of the plywood. Insert a staple through the materials into the plywood. Continue stapling one side of the board until complete. Continue to place staples in the adjacent side of the plywood. Be sure the material is taut across the plywood. Be sure the corners are especially smooth and even.

    • 3

Fold the corner of the fabric and batting over the previously stapled corner, starting at a bottom corner of the plywood. Insert at least two staples to ensure it is secure. Move across to the opposite corner and apply the same technique. Once both corners are secure, staple the remaining portion of fabric and batting to the plywood. Find the top corner of the plywood and repeat this step.

    • 4

Cut off any excess fabric and batting.

Tips & Warnings

  • Depending on the thickness of your upholstery fabric, batting and foam, you may have to adjust the tautness of the pull onto the plywood. You want the corners to be neat not bulky.

  • You may choose to cover the back of the headboard. If so, simply cut a piece of fabric about 1/2 inch smaller than the headboard and staple.
