1
Chose a design of stair balusters that match the hand railing. It's recommended that you match the building material. For example, if you have a wood railing, chose wood balusters.
-
2
Measure the circumference of the baluster. You may be able to find the measurement printed on the top of the baluster as well.
-
-
3
Using a hand drill and drill bit, drill a hole, about a half inch deep, on the bottom of the hand railing the same size of the circumference of the baluster.
-
4
Apply wood glue on the outer part of the baluster that will go into the railing. If installing metal balusters, use epoxy instead of wood glue.
-
5
Insert the baluster into the recently drilled hole on the bottom of the railing. Apply a small amount of glue or epoxy to ensure a more secure fit. Allow the glue or epoxy to dry completely before continuing.
-
6
Apply wood glue or epoxy to the bottom of the baluster that meets the stair tread. Attach the baluster to the stair tread and wipe away any glue or epoxy that may ooze out, using a clean cloth. Allow 24 hours for the glue or epoxy to dry completely before applying any pressure to the hand railing or balusters.
