How to Apply Rub-On Decals

A rub-on decal can be used to add personality to your vehicle, or it can be used to display important information, such as auto club membership. Apply rub-on decals to the windows of your vehicle, ideally in a lower corner so they don't block your view. The temperature should be 50 degrees or higher; in cold weather, rub-on decals are not elastic enough or adhesive enough to remain in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a dry towel to wipe the area where you will be applying the decal completely clean.

    • 2

Apply ammonia-based glass cleaner to the area, then wipe the area clean again. The glass cleaner not only helps make the area clean so the decal can be seen, but also helps the decal adhere better. Without the glass cleaner, the decal is less likely to remain in place for a long time.

    • 3

Gently affix the decal into place. Make sure you do not apply any pressure, as you will be adjusting the decal before putting it permanently into place.

    • 4

With someone standing on the outside guiding you, straighten and center your decal to make sure it is displayed the way you want. Once have it in place, check it from outside the vehicle.

    • 5

Use a metal ruler to apply pressure to the decal. Use the ruler slowly, and run it over the decal several times until all of the air bubbles are gone and the decal is clearly visible from the outside.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always apply your decal on the inside of the window to protect it from the elements.
