- 1 package multicolored pony beads

- Metallic cord
- Miniature jingle bell

1
Decide what size safety pins you want to use to create your Christmas tree. The larger the safety pins, the larger the Christmas tree will be. Correspond the size of your metallic cord and jingle bell with the size of your safety pins. For example, a tree made of 3-inch safety pins will need approximately 30 inches of cord. The size of your jingle bell can be chosen based on your preference.

2
Cut the amount of cord you'll need to create your safety pin Christmas tree. If you're not sure, cut the cord to about 40 to 50 inches. Excess cord can be trimmed away later.

3
Use your glue to stiffen the ends of the metallic cord. This will make it easier to string the pony beads. Let the glue dry completely before continuing.
-
4
Open up the five safety pins. On each pin, string a combination of green pony beads and colored pony beads, which represent the ornaments on the Christmas tree. If you're using 3-inch safety pins, then three of the pins will have a total of seven green beads and two colored beads, and two of the pins will have a total of six green beads and two colored beads. If your safety pins are smaller, you'll use fewer beads, and if they're larger, you'll use more beads. Try to keep the ratio of green to colored beads approximately the same, and separate the colored beads by at least one green bead.
-
5
Close the five safety pins after all them are strung with pony beads.
-
6
Locate the middle of the cord, and string the jingle bell through. The jingle bell should now be at the center of the cord.
-
7
Take one end of the cord and string it through the five safety pins. String it through the coil of the pins. Start with a safety pin that has more beads (nine in the above example). Follow it with a safety pin with fewer beads (eight in the above example). A safety pin with more beads should be in the middle of the tree, followed by one with fewer beads and then one with more beads, creating an equal pattern on either side of the middle safety pin.
-
8
String each end of the metallic cord through the pony beads on either end of the Christmas tree.
-
9
String the cord through a single colored bead on the end of the first safety pin. Then, string it through the head of that pin.
-
10
Add two beads between the first and second safety pin head. String the metallic cord through those two beads and then through the head of the second safety pin. Continue adding two beads until you reach the middle safety pin.
-
11
Add one more bead to the end of the last safety pin as you did at the beginning of the first safety pin. Then, string the metallic cord through two pony beads and then through the head of the second to last pin. Continue adding two beads until you reach the middle safety pin.
-
12
String both sides of the cord through one final pony bead under the middle safety pin. Tie the cord in a neat bow at the bottom of that pony bead. Trim off any excess cord.
-
13
Add an ornament hook to the top of the jingle bell to make your safety pin Christmas tree into an ornament for your real Christmas tree.

Tips & Warnings
If small children will be helping you make Christmas trees out of safety pins, handle the open safety pins yourself. Have the children help you select the beads and string the final tree together.
