How to Attach an Old VCR to a New LCD TV
LCD televisions deliver state-of-the-art picture and sound, but the sets are also equipped with jacks for connecting older audio or video equipment, such as a VCR. Two sets of audio/video cables are needed to record programs on the VCR and play back tapes on the LCD TV. These RCA-type cables, also known as composite cables, are color-coded for speedy connections. The setup should take no more than 10 minutes.

1
Connect one set of composite cables to the VCR's "record in" jacks, attaching the yellow plug to the video connection and the white and red cables to the left and right stereo audio jacks. The plugs and jacks are color-coded for simple match-ups.
-
2
Insert the other ends of the cables into the LCD TV's "video" and "audio out" jacks. This connection sends image and sound signals to the VCR for recording.
-
3
Attach a second set of composite cables to the VCR's "playback" or "video/audio out" jacks, using the color codes as a guide.
-
4
Connect the other ends of the second set of cables to the "video/audio in" composite jacks on the back of the LCD TV. This connection sends the image and sound signals from the VCR to the television during playback of a videotape.
-
5
Set the LCD TV to Channel 3 or 4 to enjoy playback of tapes in the VCR. Set the TV to the desired channel to record a program with the VCR and a blank tape.
