How to Wire a Maytag Atlantis Dryer

Kenneth Crawford

New dryers do not come with the power cord attached. This is because homes differ in the type of outlet available for the dryer. Before completing your purchase of a new Maytag Atlantis dryer, inform your salesperson whether you have a three-prong outlet or a four-prong outlet for the dryer. Once you have the correct power cord, you can wire the Maytag Atlantis dryer for your home. If you have a four-prong dryer outlet, you will need to disconnect the green ground wire that is inside your Maytag. This will provide the necessary mounting location for the fourth wire on the four-prong cord.

Three-Prong Cord

Step 1

Locate the terminal block cover plate on the rear of the Maytag Atlantis dryer. Remove the screw securing the cover plate with a nut driver. Place the strain relief over the end of the power cord with the securing screws on the plug side of the cord.

Step 2

Insert the wire end of the power cord through the cord hole to the bottom right of the terminal block access. Push the strain relief into the hole and turn the strain relief clockwise to lock it into the hole.

Step 3

Remove the retaining nuts from the three terminal screws with a nut driver. Place the center white wire of the power cord over the silver terminal screw and secure with the retaining nut. Place the remaining two wires on each end terminal screw and secure with the retaining nuts.

Step 4

Tighten the strain relief screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver to secure the power cord to the dryer. Place the access cover back on the rear panel and secure with the retaining screw.

Four-Prong Cord

Step 1

Remove the terminal block cover plate and insert the power cord and strain relief into the rear of the dryer. Lock the strain relief into the dryer.

Step 2

Locate the screw on the terminal block support that secures the ground wire to the support. The ground wire is the wire connecting from the center terminal to the terminal block support and is usually green in color. Remove the screw with the nut driver and remove the center terminal retaining nut with the nut driver.

Step 3

Fold the green ground wire in half and place both ends of the green ground wire over the center terminal screw. Place the white wire from the power cord over the center terminal screw and secure with the retaining screw. Place the green wire over the hole on the terminal block support and secure with the retaining nut.

Step 4

Remove the two end retaining nuts on the terminal block and place the remaining two cord wires over each terminal screw. Secure with the retaining nuts.

Step 5

Tighten the strain relief screws to secure the cord to the dryer and place the terminal block cover back on the rear of the dryer.
