How to Fix a Stuck DVD Drive on the XBox 360

One of the problem areas of the Xbox 360 console is its game disc tray. The tray, if not taken care of correctly and with over use can actually become stuck and not open when prompted to do so. Any games in the tray and the mechanism itself can become damaged due to this correctable problem. You do not have to send the console to Microsoft for repairs and wait weeks to play, because there's a much simpler solution to this problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the Xbox 360 game console and pull out all the plugs from the system.

    • 2

Turn the Xbox 360 in a horizontal position.

    • 3

Manually pull out the disc tray, either with your fingers (if this is possible) or with a tool like a knife. Be very careful and patient, and do not apply much pressure when doing this.

    • 4

Dampen your cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. Clean both sides of the tray from end to end, until it is clean and debris free.

    • 5

Insert a cotton swab, moistened with isopropyl alcohol, into the hole by the back of the tray bezel and by the Xbox logo. This hole is moon shaped in appearance. Clean the hole with the swab and remove. Allow the alcohol to air dry.

    • 6

Take a retractable razor blade and cut an eraser off a pencil; then cut the eraser in two equal halves.

    • 7

Insert one half of the eraser into the hole you just cleaned, by the Xbox logo. While in the hole, cut the eraser down to the point to when it is barely sticking out of the hole.

    • 8

Take out the eraser piece with your fingers.

    • 9

Rub glue, such as Krazy Glue, on the smooth sides of the eraser. Place the eraser back into the hole by the Xbox logo. Make sure it is secure and that the glue dries, holding it in place.

    • 10

Push in the Xbox 360 game disc until it shuts closed. Put the plugs that you unplugged earlier back into the console. Test the disc tray by pressing the Xbox 360 tray button. Place a game into the tray and play. Do this several times to confirm that the disc tray has been repaired.

Tips & Warnings
