How to Rotate Text in Microsoft Word 2007

Microsoft Word 2007 does not allow you to rotate normal text. You can, however, rotate text that you have written with WordArt. WordArt is a special function in Microsoft Word that allows you to enter text in much fancier type than standard characters because the letters are colored, shaded and angled. Rotating text can be useful if you care creating a sign or poster and want to have text that is not written horizontally.

Instructions

  1. Rotating WordArt

    • 1

Insert WordArt when you are in Microsoft Word by clicking the "Insert" tab and selecting the appropriate style of WordArt you want to insert. You can enter the words you want to rotate and select the font and size. When you are finished, click "OK."

    • 2

Right-click the WordArt and click "Format WordArt" from the context menu.

    • 3

Click the "Size" tab at the top of the menu and choose the amount of rotation you want for your text. Zero degrees means the text is aligned normally. Each degree of increase rotates the text 1 degree clockwise.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to flip your WordArt, set the rotation to 180 degrees.

  • If you decide you want to change the format of the WordArt after you have entered it and rotated it, you can change the style but you will lose any rotational changes that you have made. You will then have to rotate it again.
