How to Make a Kids' Craft Paper Chariot

Chariots were used by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. Making a paper chariot is a great way to teach history, physics, or it can serve as a simple craft. Depending on the culture, research how chariots were decorated in Greece, Rome and Egypt.

Things You'll Need

• Card stock, 4 inches by 5 1/2 inches in size
• Pencil
• Ruler
• String
• Tape
• Scissors
• Colored markers

Instructions

Making the Chariot

1. Hold the card stock so that the short edges are at the top and bottom. At the top left corner, measure two inches in length from the long edge and two inches deep from the short edge. Mark the rectangle off and repeat this step in the top right corner.

2. Cut out the two small rectangles in each upper corner. Fold the small rectangle on top downward until the fold is even with the cut edges. This fold should be two inches deep.

3. Fold the right and left sides inward two inches. Tape the edge from the top and the sides to make one end of the chariot. It should look like one side of a box. The other end should be open.

4. Cut a 10-inch length of string. Tape the two ends to the middle and front of the chariot.

5. Fold a piece of card stock in half. On one side, draw a large wheel and a slightly smaller wheel. Cut these out using both sides of the card stock to create four wheels.

6. Decorate the wheels and chariot using markers. Tape the large wheels to the sides of the chariot near the front and the smaller wheels to the sides of the chariot near the back.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider using a toy horse to hook the reins to an action figure that can stand inside the chariot.
