How to Pull Curtains Closed

Save

Pulling curtains closed might sound like an easy task, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Incorrectly closing curtains can damage curtain rods, hanging hardware, and walls. Curtains can also end up bunched up in some spots and flat in others.

Things You'll Need

  • Step ladder
  • Set the step ladder on a flat surface in front of the curtains. Climb onto the ladder unless you are tall enough to close the curtains without pulling down on them. Any pulling motion that involves a downward pressure on the curtain rod has the potential to cause damage.

  • Reach toward the curtain rod and grasp the fabric on each side of the opening. Holding the fabric right against the curtain rod reduces the chance of it being pulled downward.

  • Draw your hands together in a straight and even motion until they meet in the center of the rod.

  • Step down from the step ladder. Step back 3 to 4 feet and inspect the curtains. Make sure the opening is completely closed. Also look for spots that do not have an equal amount of puckers.

  • If the curtain looks the way you like it, you are done. If there are places on the curtain rod that are bunched up more than others, climb back onto the step ladder. Place your hand directly on the bunched up spots on top of the curtain rod and slide them until the puckers are even all of the way across the curtain rod.
