How to Install a Spyder Cold Air Intake

Spyder Cold Air Intake systems are a relatively low-cost way to increase the performance of your automobile. In a standard intake, normal amounts of warm air from the engine compartment are fed into your engine. However, a Spyder Cold Air Intake sucks in larger amounts of cold air from the side of your car, away from the hot internals of your engine bay, and feeds this cold air into your engine where it creates more powerful combustion, thus creating a noticeable increase in power.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Open the hood of your car and locate the air intake assembly. This will be the hard rubber tubing leading from the throttle body to the large black air intake box.

  2. Step 2

    Disconnect any wiring harnesses or other tubes that are attached to the intake assemble.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the screws that hold the intake box together and remove the top of the intake box. Some intake boxes have metal latches instead of screws; simply pull on these latches to release them.

  4. Step 4

    Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp that holds the intake assembly to the throttle body and remove the intake assembly.

  5. Step 5

    Place the rubber coupler supplied with the Spyder Cold Air Intake system over the throttle body and secure it in place using one of the provided hose clamps.

  6. Step 6

    Place the new intake assembly into the throttle body and position it in place. Then use another hose clamp to attach it to the coupler.

  7. Step 7

    Insert any wiring harnesses or other tubing into the areas provided in the new intake assembly.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can remove the bottom of the intake box using a wrench before installing the new intake system. This is a purely aesthetic option.
  • Make sure once you have finished that the new intake system is not in contact with any other part of the engine and that no wires are in contact with it. If it is making contact, loosen the hose clamp and reposition it, then tighten the clamp again.
