Rust is like cancer for an automobile. When the floorboards of a vehicle begin to rust, you must catch it early or your floorboard will simply rust away. Once the structural integrity of the floorboard is gone, nothing can be done to save it aside from completely rebuilding the floor panel.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Belt sander
  • 600-grit sandpaper
  • Shop vacuum
  • Soap and water
  • Towel
  • Rust converter
  • Application brush
  1. Step 1

Sand the rusty floorboard to remove as much loose rust as you possibly can.

  2. Step 2

Vacuum up all of the debris created by the belt sander.

  3. Step 3

Wash the floorboard you are working on with soap and water.

  4. Step 4

Dry the floorboard thoroughly with a clean towel.

  5. Step 5

Apply a liberal amount of rust converter to the floorboard where there is still surface rust. The rust converter will convert the rust to a black primer that can be sealed and painted.
