How to Remove Rust From Motorcycle Wheel Spokes

Motorcycle wheel spokes can rust if they are not well taken care of, or if the spokes are prone to rusting because the finish has been damaged. Rust will eventually destroy a wheel, so it is best to deal with it as quickly as you possibly can. You also must be careful that you do not damage the wheel in the process.

Things You'll Need

• 1200 grit sandpaper
• Clean rag
• Rust converter
• Application pad

Instructions

1. Remove the surface rust from the motorcycle's wheel spokes with 1200 grit sandpaper. Make sure that you remove only the loose rust. Do not file down the surface of the wheel spokes.

2. Wipe the spokes down with a clean rag to remove any debris generated during sanding.

3. Apply the rust converter to the wheel spokes where there is rust and allow it to dry for at least an hour. The rust converter will convert the rust to a paintable black primer. From here, you can paint the wheel and use a clear coat finish to protect the spokes.
