How to Install Hid Fog Lights on a Scion TC

Aftermarket HID fog lights for the Scion TC are available from most auto parts stores, or from trusted sources like Autoloc. An HID fog light replaces the factory ballast with an HID ballast. The kits are plug and play, and require only a few minutes to install. The bulbs are filled with xenon which requires a high output electrical charge-something that the factory ballast is not able to produce.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the nut on the cable clamp and slide the clamp off the terminal. Normally, this is not required when changing fog lights, but since you will be converting the factory ballast to a high power output ballast, it is recommended that you disconnect the battery to avoid an accidental electrical shock.

    • 2

Open the hood on the TC and unplug the factory electrical plug running to the fog light assembly. The fog lights sit below the headlights.

    • 3

Turn the fog light counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing assembly.

    • 4

Plug the factory electrical connector for the fog lights into the HID ballast input that will accept the factory plug.

    • 5

Insert the xenon bulb into the TC's fog light housing. Align the tabs on the bulb with the notches on the housing.

    • 6

Turn the bulb clockwise to lock it into the housing.

    • 7

Plug the HID ballast connector into the back of the xenon bulb.

    • 8

Reconnect the battery, and turn on the headlights to verify that the system is working properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not touch the glass on the fog lights with your fingers. The natural oils on your fingers will cause the bulb to explode inside the fog light housing once you turn the lights on.
