How to Remove the Bottom Plate of a Dyson Vacuum

Save

The bottom plate on Dyson vacuum cleaners is a cover placed on the underside of the vacuum's main nozzle. The bottom plate protects the components of the nozzle and makes it easier to push the vacuum across the floor. The bottom plate must be removed to gain access to the belt or agitator. The method for removing the bottom plates differs between Dyson upright and canister vacuums.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver

Upright Vacuum

  • Shut off the power and unplug the vacuum from the electrical outlet.

  • Lay the vacuum cleaner on the floor so the bottom of the nozzle is accessible.

  • Unscrew the three screws from the bottom plate. Two of the screws are located on the right side of the bottom plate, and the other is on the left.

  • Lift the back of the bottom plate and pull it off the nozzle to remove it.

Canister Vacuum

  • Shut off the power to the vacuum cleaner and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  • Turn the nozzle around so that bottom is facing up.

  • Twist the right and left bottom plate latches counterclockwise to unlock the bottom plate from the nozzle.

  • Lift up on the bottom plate to remove it from the nozzle.
