How to Choose a Dresser Mirror

Save

A dresser can come with or without a mirror and both types can function in a room. Adding a mirror has many advantages, however, such as making a small room feel larger and creating the illusion of more light. If you are purchasing a dresser or already have one and want to add a mirror to it, there are several considerations you should take into account before choosing. Not only should you like it, but it should fit in well with the room to ensure it functions properly as both a decorative and useful piece.

  • Choose the shape of the mirror you want before selecting any other features. It should compliment the design of the rest of the room, and the dresser shape itself. If you use a lot of rectangular or square pieces, use this shape for your mirror. If you use curves and circles, choose a round or oval mirror.

  • Purchase a framed mirror if you want to add color to a room. The frame is good for directing the viewer's eye and the color can coordinate with the dresser. For a more relaxed feeling, choose a mirror without a frame.

  • Measure your dresser before shopping and make sure the dresser is wider than the mirror. You do not want the mirror sticking out past the edges of the dresser. The mirror should also be shorter than the dresser is tall. This helps create balance.

  • Use a smooth glass for a simple design. If you want a more elaborate or catchy design, find a mirror that is separated into segments or has designs etched into the glass. Colored glass works well too when you are looking for a more decorative than functional piece.
