The drive belt of any Kawasaki is the link that attaches the engine to the wheels, allowing your vehicle to move. Without it, the engine's work would go to waste while the wheels stand still. When the belt of your Kawasaki is damaged or is exhibiting a high amount of wear and tear, it will decrease the efficiency and overall performance of your vehicle, eventually leading to a breakdown. To avoid this, it is recommended that the drive belt be replaced at regular intervals or when showing extensive wear.
Things You'll Need
- Kawasaki drive pulley puller
- Kawasaki drive belt
Remove the bolts on the CVT cover. Lift off the CVT cover and disconnect the wires attached. Place it aside.
Use a Kawasaki drive pulley puller to remove the front pulley. Remove the drive belt from the pulley and dispose of it.
Put the new belt on the drive pulley.
Torque the drive pulley to the appropriate tension. Refer to your owner's manual for this number as it will differ depending on the year and model of your Kawasaki.
Clean off any surfaces that will be covered by the CVT cover. Reattach the wires to the CVT cover. Bolt the CVT cover back into place.
Tips & Warnings
- You may find it easier to not disconnect the electrical wires from the CVT boot and to instead use something to hold it to the side instead.
- Make sure when you are done to check the belt deflection. If you have more than an inch of deflection in the belt, you may have to add some shims.
