How to Make Fake Ice Cubes

"Fake ice cubes" are usually used in film production and photography, because real ice melts quickly and is difficult to work with. Several production companies sell fake ice cubes; unfortunately, they are very expensive, often costing up to $30 for a single ice cube. It's quick and simple to make your own fake ice cubes at home.

Things You'll Need:

• Aluminum ice cube tray
• Clear craft beads

1. Purchase a bag of clear plastic craft beads. Most craft stores keep these in stock and they are relatively inexpensive.

2. Acquire a metal or aluminum ice cube tray. Several online retailers sell metal ice cube trays. If you can't find one, see the resources to learn how to make a mold yourself from aluminum foil.

3. Fill each mold to the top with the plastic craft beads. Preheat your oven to 375 F.

4. Bake the beads for 15 to 20 minutes to melt them down. Once they are finished, let them cool for about an hour, and then remove the "ice cubes" from the mold.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also use a cupcake baking pan or another mold to make different shapes of "ice." Make sure the mold or pan is oven-safe.
