Things You'll Need:
- pipe cleaners
- string or yarn
- scissors
-
Step 1
The first step in making the spider web is to lay five pipe cleaners out on a flat surface crossing them at the middle. Be sure to leave about an inch overlap on each pipe cleaner to fasten them together.
-
Step 2
The next step is to take the 1 inch overlap and fold it back over the original pipe cleaner and then twist them together. Start at the bottom pipe cleaner in the pile to make it more secure.
-
Step 3
The next step is to begin threading the web. You will need yarn or string for this step. Start by tying a knot around one of the pipe cleaners. Then bring the string to the next pipe cleaner and simply wrap the string around once and go onto the next pipe cleaner. Continue wrapping the string around each pipe cleaner until you get back to where you started and tie it off.
-
Step 4
Repeat the above step again about an inch from the original thread make the next part of the web.
-
Step 5
Continue this process until the strings are about an inch from the outside of the pipe cleaners. If you want to hang the web from something the extra on the ends helps to secure it. If you do not want to leave the extra all you have to is bend the ends back and twist together to make a finished web. Either way works, it is just a matter of personal preference.

Step 6
Now the web is complete. There are many ways to modify this process. Different types of string or yarn are fun to try. The pictures in this article show the web made with fuzzy yarn, which is a favorite with my kids. You can also make the foundation of the web with string but it is not as easy to do with young kids because it so flexible.
