How to Remove Steering Column Covers on a Cavalier
The Cavalier is a compact car produced by Chevrolet from 1982 to 2005. It is a front-drive vehicle that, over the course of its production run, was available with inline-four-cylinder, V6 and quad-four engines. On this vehicle, the steering column cover refers to a plastic piece attached to the lower part of the dash just below the steering column. If you need to access the wiring harness located beneath the dash (for instance, if you're installing accessory switches or a new stereo), you will need to remove this panel.

Tips & Warnings
Be careful not to lose the metal clips that the retaining screws attach to once you have removed the cover. They will be attached to the flange just behind the perimeter of the steering column cover.
Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal. There are exposed electrical connections underneath the dash. Inadvertently touching these connections with your hand or a metal tool could cause electric shock.
