How to Make a Beehive Hairdo

The beehive hairdo came into style late into the 1950s and grew through the early '60s. Although it is well-known to be a tall updo truly resembling a beehive, but since then, the beehive updo has evolved into a smooth, short and fashionable style that can be worn for almost any occasion. While preparing this hairstyle is usually done in a hair salon by a hair stylist, you can prepare your own at home with a few simple steps.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Shampoo
    • Strong-hold hairspray
    • Bobby pins
    • Hair clips
    • Curling iron
    • Towel
    • Rattail brush (optional)
    1. Preparing a Beehive Hairdo

      • 1

Wash and shampoo hair, then towel dry. Curl hair using curling iron to boost overall volume and height.

      • 2

Strengthen the base roots with hairspray by spraying only the hair near the scalp. This will set it for later building and add a base volume to the beehive.

      • 3

Take the hair in the front near your forehead and clip it out of the way. This will later be used to give the beehive a smooth and stylish appearance.

      • 4

Begin bobby-pinning sections of your hair to your crown and holding them with hairspray. Stack these sections to build height and, if necessary, tease some sections with a rattail brush.

      • 5

Take the front area of hair that was previously clipped away and work it so it covers the sides and top of the sections that are stacked in the back. Sometimes it can also be waved over the forehead for a different sort of beehive. Complete with an all-around shot of hairspray to hold.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Curlers may be used instead of a curling iron for initial curls. Refrain from brushing curls out.

    • Be aware of how certain hairstyles work with the shape of the face. Women may find themselves with undesirable results if they have oval or elongated faces.
