How to Use a Male Catheter

If you have undergone any kind of spinal injury or have a medical problem controlling your bladder, you most likely need a catheter. A catheter is a collection device that will funnel all urine into a pouch, which in turn will keep you from any embarrassment of accidentally wetting your pants. If you are male you can use a male catheter, which is used and applied very much like a condom.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and thoroughly dry your body before applying the catheter. It will not apply properly if your body is still wet.

    • 2

Remove the catheter from the package and unroll it slightly to remove a notch (or groove). Reroll the catheter.

    • 3

Slide it onto your penis up until the head fits into the cone of the catheter but doesn't touch the bubble at the tip.

    • 4

Remove the adhesive sheath of the catheter and squeeze it against your penis. This will adhere it to your body and prevent any leakage.

    • 5

Take the leg bag and slip the leg straps through. Place the bag on the inside of one of your legs (it doesn't matter which one). Tighten the leg straps so the bag stays on securely.

    • 6

Connect the latex tubing to the tip of the leg bag. Do this by pushing the tub completely into the valve of the bag. Do this same step with the end of the catheter.
