Towels for making bibs

It may seem that you cannot have too many bibs when you have a baby. This is especially true once a baby begins to eat solid foods. Bibs that pull over a baby's head and fit snugly around the neck are easy to use and work well to protect a baby's clothing. Make these bibs out of fingertip towels for a simple project that will produce a generous collection of baby bibs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fingertip towel
  • Existing bib (similar in size to the towel, used as a pattern)
  • Fabric pen
  • Scissors
  • 1.5-inch wide ribbing (color to match or contrast the towel)
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread (color to match the ribbing)
  1. Step 1

Place the fingertip towel wrong side up on a flat work surface and place the existing bib on top of the fingertip towel. Trace around the neck hole of the existing bib onto the fingertip towel with the fabric pen. Remove the bib and set it aside.

  2. Step 2

Cut around the drawn circle to make a hole in the fingertip towel.

  3. Step 3

Measure the circumference of the hole with the tape measure and cut a length of ribbing to this measurement.

  4. Step 4

Fold the ribbing in half widthwise and sew the two short ends together to create a circle of ribbing. The folded edge will be on the inside of the circle and the raw edge will be on the outside of the circle.

Divide the ribbing circle into quarters and the cut circle of the towel into quarters by inserting pins at each quarter point.

  6. Step 6

Place the towel with the right side facing up onto the work surface. Place the ribbing circle onto the circular hole in the towel, matching the raw edges and the pinned points on the two pieces. Pin the ribbing into place.

  7. Step 7

Sew around the raw edges of the ribbing and towel with a ¼-inch seam allowance. Clip the thread and remove the pins to finish the bib. The seam will automatically flip inside the bib and the ribbing will flip out.
