Things You'll Need:

  • You'll need Acoustica Spin It again software which you can download from this page by scrolling down and clicking on a link in "Resources" section.
  • You'll need a Stereo To Stereo cable having 1/8" plugs on both ends. You might need a different cable and we'll discuss about that in the article.
  1. Step 1

    First of all, please dust off your cassette tapes :) Now you need to get prepared and collect the things you'll need during the recording. Since this tutorial is all about Converting Cassette Tapes To CDs, you should make sure that you've the followings in your hand :

    1. Acoustica Spin It Again (You can download it from the "Resources" section below).
    2. A Tape Player to play your cassettes.
    3. A Stereo To Stereo Cable to connect your tape player's output jack to your computer's sound card's Line In Jack. The color of Line In jack is usually blue. Please look at the back side of your CPU and you should find it. In few models, you may find this blue Jack on the front panel of your CPU.

    In most cases you'll need a Stereo to Stereo cable having 1/8" plugs in each end. However, In some cases either your tape player or computer's sound card might have RCA jacks. In that situation, you'll need a RCA To Stereo cable. These cables are easily available in hardware stores for pennies. This is the only thing, you need to get If you don't have it. Everything else required for recording is already built in your computer and you just need to use that.

  2. Step 2

    Now that you have installed Acoustica Spin It again, Have the Tape Player and Stereo Cable, you are ready to go.

    First of all, please run Acoustica Spin It Again software and click on "Record a Cassette Tape". Once you click on this button, you'll see a message box asking If you need help with making the connections. Please click on "Yes" button and this will display "Hook Up" Wizard. This wizard will guide you about how to make the connection.

    Basically, you need to connect Headphone Out jack of your tape player to Line In jack of your sound card by using the Stereo Cable having 1/8" banana plugs on each end and that's it!

  3. Step 3

    Once you make the connections right, you'll be prompted with a screen which will allow your to record. Here, please click on "Level Wizard" button and select source as "Line In". Please make sure that the song is playing in the Tape Player and input is being received in Line In. If everything is right, you'll be able to see the volume levels dancing.

  4. Step 4

    After setting the recording source as Line In and the input is coming properly, you are ready for the final step, record cassette tapes.

    Please click on "Record" button and start recording from Line In recording source. This way the software will record whatever is being played in the Tape Player.

    After recording, you can burn an Audio CD or an MP3 CD whatever you want. The software supports lots of other features as well which is not possible to describe here. Give this software a try and bring life back to your cassette tapes.
