Windows Media Player (WMP) is a multimedia player that allows you to playback videos, photos and music of different formats. The WMP contains a library that allows you to store music files so that you can play or organize them the way you want, anytime you want. Music files can be downloaded to the Windows Media Player easily from a variety of locations, such as system folders, music CDs and Windows Media stores.
Step 1
Launch Windows Media Player from the location you have it installed on your computer. If you do not have it, download and install it free (see Resources). Launch your program after it has installed.

Click the "Library" arrow located on the top of the program and click "Add to library."

Select the folder that you want to download music from. If you do not see the folder you want, click "Add."
Step 4
Locate the folder that you want to download music from and click "OK." Click "OK" again to download music from the selected folder to the Windows Media Player. If you want to download music from a CD, move to the next step.
Step 5
Insert the music CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer and click the "Rip" button on Windows Media Player.
Step 6
Click the CD drive that has the music CD on the left panel to begin ripping the CD. When the ripping process is complete, the songs will be downloaded automatically into Windows Media Player. Move to the next step if you want to download songs from the Windows Media Player store.
Step 7
Click the "Media Guide." Sign up for an account if you do not have an account. Click "Browse" to locate the music files you want. Once you find what you want, type in your billing information to purchase and download the music file to Windows Media Player library.
