How to Make Animals Out of Pom Poms
Pom pom animals can be used for embellishments on crafted items, on handmade greeting cards, as floral arrangement inserts and as gift package decorations. Pom pom animals are easily made from commercial or hand-made fiber pom poms. Children enjoy making these soft miniature critters to decorate their rooms, have for backpack buddies or use for jewelry pieces. Bodies, legs, ears and tails are made with pom poms that are sold in 1/4-inch to 3-inch sizes. Some animals are completed with felt ears and bead noses.

1
Cover your work surface with a piece of waxed or freezer paper to protect the area from glue residue. Select the colors for your pom pom animal, and arrange them on your work surface. For example, choose two grey pom poms for a mouse. Two large white pom poms for a body and six small black pom poms for the paws and ears with one tiny white pom pom for a snout will make a panda bear.

2
Glue the two main body pom poms to one another. Set the pom poms aside until the glue is dry.
-
-
3
Glue two small pom poms to the shoulders and two to the foot area of the body to make the four legs of the pom pom animal.
-
4
Glue two eyes to the head. Center a tiny black, pink, brown or red bead under the eyes, and secure it with glue to create a nose, or glue a tiny pom pom under the eyes for a snout on an animal that requires one.
-
5
Cut six 1/4- to 1/2-inch pieces of black or clear plastic thread for whiskers for a cat, seal or mouse. Put a dot of glue on one end of a whisker. Insert the glued end into the fibers of the face.
-
6
Cut a tiny piece of felt for a mouth, and glue in place.
-
7
Coil a piece of plastic thread for a slim tail for a mouse. Glue the tail into the back of the pom pom critter. Glue a tiny pom to the back of a bear for a tail. Use chenille stems for a dog, cat or any animal with a long tail. Cut ears from felt for a mouse, cat, dog or animal with pointed or elongated ears. Glue the ears to the side of the head.
