Using a ball of yarn is a convenient way to knit, crochet or do any sort of craft involving yarn. If done properly, a ball of yarn will not unravel as you work, but will only come undone as it is pulled. Also, it's an efficient and space-saving way of storing and keeping yarn. A yarn ball can make a great film or play prop. It can also be a cat's toy.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

Grip one end of the yarn between the thumb and index finger.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the yarn tightly around the thumb and finger.

  3. Step 3

Change directions every 15 seconds or so while wrapping the yarn. You may wrap the yarn horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This combination of directions gives the yarn ball added stability.

  4. Step 4

Once the yarn has formed about a 1-inch wad around your fingers, let go of the end and pull your fingers free.

  5. Step 5

Continue wrapign the yarn, changing directions every once in a while, until you have run out of yarn.

  6. Step 6

Once the yarn ball is finished, tuck the end of the yarn into several of the layers of the yarn ball. Reach in the small hole where your fingers were originally and pull out the other end of the yarn.
