How to Make a Bracelet from a Record
Old, scratched vinyl records are great raw materials for jewelry making. This tutorial will explain how to take an old LP record destined for the trash can and turn it into a hand made cuff bracelet that is a wearable work of art.
Instructions

-
1
Identify an old vinyl record that can no longer be used because it is scratched or that is no longer wanted.
-
2
Place the record on a cookie sheet, pizza pan or flat pan and put the record into an oven pre heated to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
-
3
Allow the record to heat until it is soft, malleable and slightly melted.
-
4
Remove the malleable vinyl record from the oven and cut it with scissors to the shape needed to make your bracelet cuff.
-
5
Place the cut shape back into the oven to melt the cut edges until they are smooth and to allow the vinyl to become malleable again.
-
6
Remove the vinyl from the oven and wrap it around a bracelet mandrel (or a tin can, soda can or paper towel roll you plan to use as a mandrel).
-
7
Allow the vinyl to cool and remove the cuff bracelet from the mandrel.

Tips & Warnings
You can use decals, stickers and nail polish to decorate the record after it is shaped.
You can drill holes in the vinyl and embellish the bracelet with beads and charms.
Do not wrap hot vinyl around your arm, it can burn quite badly. Always use a mandrel.
Vinyl and plastic can out gas when heated. Use a oven dedicated to crafts when heating vinyl or, if that is not possible, melt the vinyl inside a tent created by placing a tin foil turkey broiling pan on top of a second tin foil turkey broiling pan and then securing it with clamps.
