Instructions

    • 1

Use your pencil first, and draw a circle about the size of a quarter with a triangle on top. This should look like an upside-down ice cream cone.

    • 2

Draw a few more circles and triangles as in Step 1. Make them overlap just a little, and line them up side by side. Make sure they are different sizes. You now have your basic flame outline drawn. (You can make as many flames as you choose; you could even draw a whole forest fire!

    • 3

With your marker or a darker pencil, make a line all along the bottom of the individual flames.

    • 4

Trace around the pointy parts of the flames. Add smaller triangle shapes with curvy, loose lines pointing up from some of the sides. Try to mimic the flickering motion of flames.

    • 5

Now draw a smaller flame inside the larger flames you just drew. This line shouldn't touch any of the edges. Think of it as if you were making a thin wall around the edges of your fire.

    • 6

Add color to your drawing. You can make your flames any color you choose, but orange in the middle and yellow on the outer edges is accurate. Add different shades of yellow and orange for a more realistic effect, and shade with grey or other dark colors near the base.
