How to Clean an Air Compressor
Air compressors are an important part of many shops, and make it possible to accomplish a large amount of hard work quickly and easily. Compressors are relatively easy to use and can be cheap to run. Taking a few easy steps to keep your compressor clean will allow you to keep it running for a long time. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn off your air compressor. If it is an electrical model, unplug it from its power supply.

Use a damp rag to clean off any dust and dirt around the air vents.

Remove the air filter from the compressor. Some models may have their filters bolted in, in which case remove the bolts before pulling out the air filter.

Clean the air filter by washing it off with water. It is best to take it outside and rinse it with a hose.

Let the filter dry completely.

Place the filter back into the air compressor, securing it into place with any bolts if applicable.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a gas powered air compressor, this would also be a good time to remove the gas tank and clean it out. Clean the air filter once every other week, or once a week if used in a particularly dusty environment.
Some filters may not be reusable, in which case you will have to buy a replacement filter.
