An armband is used to signify unity in groups, make a public statement or mark a referee. This simple project can even be made for a fashion statement. Get some friends together and make an assembly line for fast production of simple arm bands. This is a fun craft for all ages.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape measure Material (large scrap for 1 armband) Ribbon Iron-on sewing tape Iron Ironing board (or safe surface) Scissors

    Making Easy Arm Bands

  1. Step 1

Measure around relaxed bicep. Add inches for larger or shared armbands. Measure how wide you want the armband. Add 2 inches to the width of the armband.

  2. Step 2

Lay out ribbon and cut two pieces at least 20 inches longer than the material. The extra length is for tying the armband, so use plenty.

  3. Step 3

Iron (toward the underside) a 1-inch crease on each side of the material. Use the crease as a guideline for laying out the ribbon tie. Measure the width of the armband after making both creases to ensure it's still wide enough.

  4. Step 4

Place the ribbon on the crease of one side. Keep the ribbon away from the seam, fold it if you need to.

  5. Step 5

Place a 1/4-inch strip of sewing tape along seem, folding fabric to cover ribbon. Cut the tape at the end as you unroll it.

  6. Step 6

Iron seam closed over ribbon. Make sure the seam is completely closed and holding. Set aside to let cool completely.

  7. Step 7

Turn the armband over and repeat Steps 4 to 6 above. Trim any hanging threads or long ribbon ends after measuring for fit.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to trim the width of the sewing tape to 1/4 inch if you can't find it in the craft store thin enough.
  • Adult supervision is necessary for this project.
